Notes for CLARENCE DEWITT CAMP: C. D. Camp was born in Camptown,PA. He was the youngest of 6 children. C. D. , his wife andson Burt moved to Geneva, NE from Jasper County, Iowa. He andhis two brothers set up a Grocery store there. He later set up aphotographic business and recorded the early times and people ofGeneva. They moved to Salida, Colorado, when son Otis took a jobthere with the railroad, but then moved on to Paonia, CO. Therethe family picked peaches in addition to photographic work. Theyeventually moved back to Salida to be near son, Otis. There ismuch written about C.D. running a photography business in Genevain "The Fillmore County Story" by Wilbur G. Gaffney, 1968,including some of his photographs. In the "Nebraska StateGazetteer Business Directory and Farmer List for 1890 and 1891",published by J.M. Wolf and Co. of Omaha, Ne, listed C.D. Camp asthe town photographer. In the 1880 Census, it shows: Clarence29 yrs Born in PA Permelia 27 Born in NYBertie 6 Born in IA Lena 2 Bornin NE Alice Roberts 23 Born in PA (Niece) Inresearching the records at the Fillmore Co. Courthouse inGeneva, NE in May 1997, we found the following information aboutland deeds. Clarence at one time held Section 18, Township 7,Quarter 1 (18-7-1). C.D. and his wife are buried inthe Camp plot at Fairmont Cemetery in Salida, CO. Stories:His great grandson, Jim Ottmer, found some photo postcards hehad created for Salida, CO when he ran the photographic businessthere.
